As he had beaten the Japanese army and made them mad, he had to escape. After the war, the family lived in Foshan and experienced hardship. Ip therefore went to <place w:st="on" />Hong Kong</place /> to start a new page with his family in 1949.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">Ip’s family had to fight for their living in <place w:st="on" />Hong Kong</place /> in the beginning. Fortunately a friend of Ip introduced him to <place w:st="on" /><city w:st="on" />Leung</city /> <state w:st="on" />Kan</state /></place /> (

ierre Ngo), the chief editor of a newspaper. <place w:st="on" /><city w:st="on" />Leung</city /> <state w:st="on" />Kan</state /></place /> lent his roof to Ip so that he could teach Wing Chun there. However as no one in Hong Kong had heard of this wushu, no one was interested in learning it even after the course had started. On the tenth day, the light of sunset shone while a young man Wong Leung (Huang Xiao Ming) rushing to the roof. He challenged Ip with Boxing but was completely defeated by Ip’s Wing Chun in just a few moves. Wong Leung understood Ip’s so powerful, he then gathered a few of his boxing friends and asked Ip to be their sifu (teacher). Ip then had his first group of pupil.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">One day, Wong Leung met a rough, Cheng Wei Ki (Dennis To), leader of a gang practicing Hung Quan, who ripped the Wing Chun leaflet into pieces. Wong was so mad that asked Cheng for a fight. Cheng was beaten by Wong completely. He felt indignation at Wong and planned to revenge. Cheng then brought his gang with swords and kidnapped Wong to fish market. Ip rushed to fish market alone to save Wong. Ip noticed Cheng’s gang is full of anger and tried to knock them down. Ip escaped to the pier while protecting Wong. Before situation got worse, Ip’s past enemy, Jin, came along with a group of coolie. Surprisingly that they were there to protect Ip. The person-in-charge the fish market, Sifu Hung (Sammo Hung), and his friend Fat Ball (Kent Cheng) came with a gang of people asking who had hurt his pupil, Cheng. Hung claimed Ip had violated the rule in the wushu society. The rule was that anyone wants to adopt pupil, they have to accept challenges from sifus of all wushu type within the time of burning a joss stick. While Ip was still hesitating, Fat Ball, who had been watching the course, suddenly arrested Ip, Wong and Jin. Fat turned out to be a Chinese major.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">In the police station, Fat Ball gave the western superintendent the bribe money from fish market. Hung and Fat had been helping this superintendent who would like to use Chinese to control over Chinese. Fat Ball helped the superintendent on chores while sifu Hung collected the bribe money from fish market, wushu institutes, etc.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">In the jail, Jin, once a bad guy that had changed. He told Ip if he wants to teach people in <place w:st="on" />Hong Kong</place />, it would be wise not to against western people. Moreover whoever likes to set their foot in wushu society, they have to follow the rule as well. After Ip was bailed out, he knew this is an inevitable fight. Although his wife (Xiong Dai Lin) was so worry from the bottom of her heart, she did not say a word.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">Ip accepted the challenge in a Chinese restaurant. In order to have a peaceful settlement, Ip only made the sifus fell on the ground. Hung was the last one who fought with Ip. It was a close fought match that the combat has no result even after the joss stick finished burning. Hung admired Ip’s Kungfu and allowed Ip to pay a membership fee before opening his own wushu institute. As Ip thought the mandatory membership fee was equivalent to blackmail, he turned down immediately. Hung claimed angrily that if Ip teaches anyone without paying the membership fee, this would be treated as violating the rule of wushu society. Ip has to bare the consequences.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">The next day, superintendent visited the venue where the “King of Boxing Competition” would take place. He came with his friend, Tyler Milos, nicknamed Twister. Superintendent was the host of “King of Boxing Competition”. Sifu Hung helped him on organizing the event while took care of security. Twister practiced his moves on the stage, he had sharp punches and lethal moves. Sifu Hung wanted to ask superintendent for the reward of organizing the competition. However superintendent neglected him. Fat Ball tried to comfort Hung but Hung felt angry about it.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">When Sifu Hung was having breakfast with his family, he noticed a piece of news reported his combat with Ip. Details with pictures were reported. The newspaper said both Hung Quan and Wing Chun are about on a par. Everyone bought the newspaper once it released and gossip started to spread. Hung then told Cheng to make trouble in Ip’s institute on the roof. <place w:st="on" /><city w:st="on" />Leung</city /> <state w:st="on" />Kan</state /></place /> experienced a lot of pressure from the community, he had no choice but asked Ip to leave the roof. While everyone was depressing, Ip told Wong and others to bring the dummy back home. He decided to continue his Wing Chun lesson.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">In a small park of the district, the community was watching Ip and his pupils practicing Wing Chun. Hung respected Ip’s insistence. He pretended passing by but aimed to give Ip a ticket of “King of Boxing Competition” to show his friendliness to Ip.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">Ip Man brought <city w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />Yao</place /></city /> (Calvin Cheng) and Wong Leung to watch the competition. Sifu Hung, Fat Ball and superintendent watched the game in VIP balcony. Twister’s performance was so well that kept on beating other competitors. He finally became the “King of Boxing”. After the competition, Cheng and other subordinates performed wushu moves as an entertainment. Thinking they are not performing practical wushu, Twister got on the stage and beat and teased Cheng and others. Other Chinese sifus were unhappy about it, they then joined the fight, too.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">Hung tried to rush onto the stage several times but was resisted by Fat Ball and superintendent. However as he noticed the Sifus are losing, he couldn’t help and joined Ip to fought with Twister on the stage. Twister was being beaten. He was so angry that wanted to fight back. He punched Wong Leung out of the stage and Wong fell into a coma. Ip rushed to check Wong’s situation while Hung was so angry that asked Twister to apologize in front of the public. Twister refused to apologize to loser unless Hung could beat him. Twister was so confident that claimed he would beat Sifu Hung to death in three punches. Hung then agreed for the fight. Although Hung was so old, he managed to fight his best. As Twister could not beat Hung in few moves, he became more and more annoying. Hung’s power started to lose at the same time that made everyone worried about him. As Ip noticed Hung’s status, he wanted to throw a white towel meaning they surrender for the fight. However Hung had stopped him as he would rather die to surrender. Twister finally punched Sifu Hung hard and made him fell on the ground.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">Hung died after the serious injury. <city w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />Yao</place /></city /> was always so mad about the behavior of the western. He wrote on the paper and expressed his thoughts. He blamed the police on protecting the westerns and their racial discrimination. This report provoked the anger of Chinese people. The protest against western continued. In order to stop this chaos, the superintendent conducted a press conference announcing that he would organize a Kungfu competition between western and Chinese people. He aimed to let Twister to beat all types of Chinese wushu so that he could stop Chinese people from blaming their unfairness. During the press conference, Ip came and decided to challenge Twister in front of all the reporters. He swore to claim back the indignity of Chinese wushu and Chinese people.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal">Ip Man and Twister’s combat started on the stage. Most of the audiences are western people and they kept catcalling Ip. Ip Man and Twister fought for their own race. Twister was 7 feet tall and full of muscles. He has physical advantage. Ip had fell several times without giving up that shows his indomitable spirit. The western audiences were touched by his spirit and started to cheer Ip Man instead. Even most western audiences were so touched by his spirit. The superintendent was the only one that still wanted Twister to beat Ip. At last, Ip used Hung’s famous move to beat Twister that made all the people cheered. After the combat, Ip claimed that this fight was not to prove Chinese Kung Fu is the best. What he would like to see is stop western people from looking down on Chinese again.</div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; COLOR: #cccccc" class="MsoNormal"> </div><div style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class="MsoNormal">After this combat, Wing Chun became more famous in <place style="COLOR: #cccccc" w:st="on" />Hong Kong</place />. More and more people of difference classes and countries came to join Ip’s institute because of his reputation. Ip taught all he knew to every pupil. Wing Chun then bloomed in the <place style="COLOR: #cccccc" w:st="on" />Southeast Asia</place />. In 1956, Wong Leung brought a young man to see Ip and be his pupil. This is the one who introduced Chinese wushu to overseas. He is the super star of the era, Bruce Lee.</div>
