Most of my local friends suggest Toyota, coz it's cheap, economy and reliable and it's been approved at least most of them are.
I think Honda is the most popular amongst International students, normally they would go for Honda Civic. But the fact is, people having the civic need to have it fixed quite frequent. I prefer Honda Prelude 89-91 model, check it out for its brilliant records which normally overseen by most people which blindly go for the civic. However you should also be aware of its ages, after all, this model is 20+ years old.
Hyundai, not popular to most students because of its "stupid" look, but as I can see, it's quite cheap. However, lots of mechanist claim that it's not very durable comparing to other Japanese cars.
Lancer is quite handsome if you stand at the back and look at it's back. but its engine and components is not quite favorable to those who familiar with cars.
Other European cars is more expensive, but I heard that they are quite reliable.
Holden and Ford is quite fuel-consumption comparing to others. Barina is OK but it just not look "smart" for me.
For new car, if you got enough $, buy whatever you like. coz it's normally run well within 3 years "approximately" .
