Ladies, gentlemen and friends,

Today we assemble at this well-know “sunshine and wildflower” city of Perth to firstly commemorate the 100th anniversary of Xinhai Revolution and the great achievements by Mr. Sun Yat-sen; secondly we are here to celebrate the official establishment of the WA Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China! On behalf of PRC Consulate general in Perth, I wish to take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude to revolutionary pioneers led by Mr Sun Yat-sen and warm congratulations to the form of WA Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China.

100 years ago, Mr Sun Yat-sen led the Xinhai Revolution, which not only overthrew the corrupted Qing dynasty and 2,000 years of monarchy in China but also opened up the path for the development of China's democracy and republic. Countless patriots showed great strength, solidarity and resilience and under the leadership of Chinese Communist Party, a new nation committing to an independent foreign policy was founded, which fundamentally changed the nation's fate.

Today, we solemnly commemorating the 100th anniversary of Xinhai Revolution is to remember this moment as history is like the nation's coordinates, anchoring our past and guiding our future. From history we learnt though China has been suffering from humiliations and disasters, Chinese people wouldn’t tolerate being backwards and showed great strength and courage at all the time. Chinese people are determined to control their own destiny and they have the ability to choose their own path. In particular, I like to express my gratitude to overseas Chinese. For a hundred of years, overseas Chinese have demonstrated virtue of hard-working and fidelity not only in the crucial moment of Xinhai Revolution and war-torn years of Sino-Japanese war; but also in nation's restructuring and modernization. The contribution of overseas Chinese are recorded in the history of the nation’s continued revitalization. Today it brings dignity to all overseas Chinese every time China is praised in the international arena. Overseas Chinese are entitled to share all the glory and achievements that Chinese nation has had.

We celebrating the 100th anniversary of Xinhai Revolution is to inherit and carry forward the spirit of Mr Sun Yat-sen. It's always worth of our study of Sun's indomitable will, his world-wide vision and broad mind. Sun's core political philosophy was "prosperous nation and nation's revival". It was Sun who first proclaimed "nation's revival", which represented the strongest beat of the nation and evoked millions of people at that time. His "national reconstruction strategy" liberated people's understanding. Mr Sun Yat-sen showed great concerns of the reunification of China and he was quoted as saying that "reunification brings people a happy life, otherwise people would suffer". For the nation’s reunification, Sun traveled around the world four times, and visiting Southeast Asia seven times. He also planned and participanted three revolutionary activities in Taiwan, which had a tremendous impact on the anti-imperialism. Sun Yat-sen's legacy and spirit have become part of Chinese people and it's also the power-house that encourages Chinese people at home and abroad to advance.

We celebrating the 100th anniversary of Xinhai Revolution is to be aware of the responsibilities that contemporary Chinese people need to take. Under the communist party's leadership and the joint efforts of overseas Chinese people, China has made great achievements that have attracted worldwide attention. China is vibrant and prosperous with Hong Kong and Macao's return to the motherland and successful hosting of Beijing Olympic Games and Shanghai World Expo. However, we should be soberly aware that to achieve China's overall reunification and modernization is a daunting task and we still have a long way to go. We still remember Sun's hope in his will "the revolution is not yet successful, the comrades still need to strive for the future". As the heir of Xinhai Revolution, we can only endeavour to live up to the standards of those who have gone before.

Ladies, gentlemen and friends,
Sun Yat-sen said "follow the trend of world historical development" and he also mentioned " be aware of China's internal situation while keeping eye on external world trends". At present, the international world order is undergoing unprecedented transforms and adjustments with in depth development in world multi-polarization and economic globalization, however, the peace and development remain the theme of this era. A historic cross-strait relations turn into a new period of peaceful development and the history offers Chinese people on both sides a rare opportunity. We have every reason to believe that under the full support  and guidance of Mr Jia Qinlin, the Chairman of CPPCC and President Qiu Weilian, the establishment of WA Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China today will certainly make due contributions to the prosperity and development of China's peaceful reunification.

I'd like to take this opportunity to provide three suggestions to the member of WA Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China:

Firstly, to carry forward the glorious tradition and promoting peaceful reunification. Sun used to address that “Overseas Chinese are the founder of China’s revolution, without them there wouldn’t have had revolution”. I attached great importance to the understanding of the history of WA Chinese community when I firstly took my position as the general consul early this year. I am deeply touched when I found out that the WA Chinese Association supported Sun Yat-sen's during the revolution and supporting the China’s construction in various ways to express their patriotism. I hope you will carry forward the patriotic and glorious tradition of responsibility to rejuvenate the Chinese nation in this new historical period and make new contributions in order to promote cross-strait peaceful reunification and development.

Secondly, to seize the opportunities and expand the development. The Chinese government attaches great importance to cooperation with WA in recent years and there have been a number of senior leaders from China has visited Western Australia. This April, Chairman Jia Qinglin of the CPPCC national committee made a successful visit to Western Australia and delivered an inspiring speech to the overseas Chinese in WA. I also like to announce good news today that China Southern Airlines Group will soon operate direct flights between Guangzhou and Perth, which will shorten the distance between China and WA and will bring convenience to daily communication. I wish all overseas Chinese in WA could seize this new opportunity to continually expand the development of business, strengthen the cooperation with mainland of China, and attach importance to work with Hong Kong、Macao and Taiwan to create a new harmonious development era of mutually beneficial to all Chinese people.

Thirdly, strengthening and improving accountability and integration into mainstream society. Chinese people have been living in Australia for more than 100 years and during this period, overseas Chinese have made great contribution to the local society. Among them many has become social elite and others become well-known local political figures, which enhance the image and influence of overseas Chinese people. The Chinese nation has all along cherished the fine tradition and benefited from the wisdom of emphasizing on education and hard work. I am certain that through constantly improving all-around ability and learning and better integrating into mainstream society, overseas Chinese people could better improve their living conditions and play a more important role for the development of friendly relations between China and Australia and improve the mutual benefit to both sides.

Last but not least, I would like to quote from Mr Sun Yat-sen"(my) dedication is indomitable, unyielding and persistent ". Let us always cherish and remember the contributions made by Chinese people in Xinhai Revolution. Chinese people is now ready to work collaborately to rejuvenate the Chinese nation and contribute to the nation's peaceful reunification!
