In Australia you can choose to study English (ELICOS), High School, Technical & Further Education (TAFE) and Vocational Education & Training (VET), Internships & University Programs. The advantages of studying in Australia are the economic cost, lifestyle & the ability to work part time on the student visa during school term and full time at vacation, plus migration pathways.
Definitions:
ELICOS - English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students of 25 hours per week full time, in government regulated language centres.
High School - Refers to years 7-12 in state, independent or private colleges all controled by state education authorities.
TAFE/VET - similar to "Community Colleges" in North America or "olytechnics" in the U.K. where vocational and trade skills are learnt e.g. building, automotive, cookery, dental technology etc. and also where professionals study work skills such as management, IT, marketing etc. TAFE is state and VET are private colleges but both award same qualifications through AQF and are regulated by same state bodies.
University - all Australian universities are accredited by the state, have under and post graduate programs and internationally recognised with most in the top 500 internationally.
