标题: should you give up your Chinese citizenship?
Hi, Everyone:

just want to ask your opinion about the citizenship. do you think we should give up our Chiense citizenship and change to Australian Citizenship? I feel it very hard to decide as I dont want to give up my chinese citizenship but with chinese passport, I will need Visa to anywhere.

I think not only me wondering about this, it is a very hard topic for every Chinese who is due to change their citizenship. Australian government not request you to have sole citizenship as lots British have double citizenship. I believe you know that. Austrlaian Government grand me for citizenshp because I am good tax payer and my tax help the government pay their bill ! the only thing is if it is worth for us to give up Chinese citizenship. I still feel connection with China and I dont want to give it up.

可得想好了，因为一旦加入别国国籍就永远无法返回中国国籍，你一辈子才能旅游多少个地方啊？也就是欧洲、非洲吧，欧洲有个申根就行了，可以去20多个国家。

给LZ的意见是，还是不要入籍的好。
我就不说什么身为中国人而骄傲这种空话了。
第一，个人方便考虑，LZ是去英美这种“免签”国家的机会多呢，还是回国探亲的机会多？相对起来，肯定是拿PR比citizen方便。
第二，从长远的经济发展来看，很难说以后中国citizen就不会比澳洲的值钱。不过LZ要是想在这里打政府工的话，那另当别论。
个人意见，勿拍砖。

yes, I know it is not related to tax. I am just saying that a citizenship is an option at the moment and I received citizenship ceremony invitation, feel hard to  decide if I should give up my Chinese citizenship or not. my wife is from Malaysia, she dont want to give up Malaysia Citizenship, and they all said in one family should be someone hold australian Passport. my daughter already australian citizenship, only me and my son not.  I still got my Chinese ID card, for next 20 years, I might be able to use that in future if I want to stay in China.

I was struglling to make a decision as well. But after a careful consideration, I have deicided  to keep my Chinese passport. I respect the people who changed their passport, this is a personal choice, no one should blame on it.
Reason 1, Cultrual identity.  I won't feel confident to say I am a Chinese any more if legally I am not a Chinese citizien. And I will never say I am an Australian because I know I am not.
Reason 2, If you live in Australia, there is no difference for a PR or citizen, unless you want to vote for election or work in the government.
Reason 3, I might get a Australian passport when China reconise double citizenship, I think that should be possible in  couple of years.
Reason 4, need a visa to travel to other country is the most readiclous excuse I have heard. As long as you have money, no matter RMB or dollars, you will always find a way to go where you want to go.
Reason 5, China is stronger and stronger, Chinese passport will be world wide accepted and respected in one day.

No offence to anybody, above is just my personal opinions.

楼主没必要拿澳洲国籍，因为你的孩子已经有了，而且你看起来在这边常住。不过都快宣誓了~放弃也是可惜。

有澳籍就可以代表华人选州长和总统了~~这个比较赞。

我觉得大家想换成澳洲CITIZEN目的大都是为了旅游方便，去很多国家不要签证。
可是你一生能去多少个国家旅游。

而且你一旦成了澳洲公民，那代表着每次回中国就需要签证。
