<strong>Chinese Premier visits Curtin to view innovative technology</strong></h1>
<p>His Excellency Mr Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of
the People's Republic of China visited the Woodside Hydrocarbon
Research Facility at Curtin University of Technology today. </p>
<p><br />
During the visit Premier Wen met with senior personnel from both
Curtin and Woodside.</p>
<p><br />
Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Twomey welcomed Mr Wen's visit
to the Woodside Hydrocarbon Research Facility.</p>
<p><br />
"It is very significant that Premier Wen is making the time
to view our innovative technology today" he said.</p>
<p><br />
"Mr Wen has a Master degree in Geology and worked in the
oil and gas industry off the east coast of China in the early
'80's, so the research was of particular interest to him.</p>
<p><br />
"The Facility has been highly successful since its inception
in 1999 and its key achievements include the Synthetic Natural
Gas Hydrate project - a process of liquefying natural gas - and
the LNG Micro-cell technology."</p>
<p><br />
In 2002 the LNG Micro-cell technology won two prestigious innovation
awards - the Eureka prize for Outstanding Engineering Innovation
and the Business/Higher Education Round Table award for Outstanding
Achievement in Collaborative Research. </p>
<p><br />
The Micro Cell technology has also had a major commercial impact
with the formation of the spin off company Cool Energy, and marketed
as CryoCell. Shell Global Solutions was attracted to the innovations
and is now a joint funding partner for the CryoCell project with
Woodside Energy Ltd funding the hydrate dehydration project. </p>
<p><br />
During the visit Mr Wen, Curtin and Woodside representatives viewed
a live demonstration of the process of liquefying of gas by the
Facility's Chair, Professor Robert Amin, a world leader in the
field of oil and natural gas processing.</p>
<p><br />
The Premier's visit to Curtin concluded with a meeting with Chinese
and Australian students from four of WA's universities.</p>
