 Happy-go-lucky 乐天知命，随遇而安的 Bob刚丢了工作，女朋友又跟他吹了，如今连房租都付不起，到处欠人的钱。然而他却说Bob is happy-go-lucky，你看看他为什么这样说。

In Bob's place I'd never get out of bed. But he's happy-go-lucky as
ever, greets you with that big smile, tells a few jokes, then invites
you for a drink. What a guy!

要是我处在Bob的地位我管保消沉得都不想起床了。但是Bob仍然是一如既往的乐天派。他满面笑容地跟你打招呼，说说笑笑，再请你喝上一杯。可真有他的! shop talk 三句话不离本行 Joe, we get enough shop talk at the office, so let's just relax
tonight, okay? Now excuse me: I'm going over and get acquainted with
that lovely girl in the green dress.

他说：Joe，咱们在办公室里谈工作谈得够多的了，所以今晚轻松轻松，好吗? 对不起，我要去那边跟那穿绿裙子的漂亮姑娘认识一下了。

这里的shop talk是在非工作时间谈论本行的话。 To cry in one's beer 自我可怜有不少美国人经常到酒吧间去，一面喝酒，一面聊天。还有的人在心情不好的时候喜欢到酒吧间去喝酒解闷。我们今天要讲的第一个俗语就是和这种习惯有关的。

To cry in one's beer，的意思是坐在酒吧间里对着啤酒哭，自己可怜自己。比如说，一个人在劝他的朋友：

Come on, Joe! Instead of sitting around in a bar all day crying in
your beer about not having any money, why not get off your bottom and
go out and look for a job!

Talk one's ear off 喋喋不休Talk one's ear off要是按照字面意思来解释就是:
跟一个人说话说掉了他的耳朵。你一定明白这是夸张的说法，就好比中文俗语：这话听得我耳朵都长茧了。这其实是在形容没完没了反反复复地对你说这话。那么
talk one's ear off究竟是什么意思呢?

longest three hours I've spent in my life.
