Joff Weston found good numbers of dhufish and a few baldchin groper off Mindarie last Saturday, with continuous action for three hours before heading back in at 9am. Many of the dhufish were 60-70cm and released well. Sand whiting have also been thick, and of good size, in around 25m. Pink snapper have been reported along the Three-Mile as far south as Rottnest Island. Anchoring and berleying has also produced some dhufish, while skippy are widespread. A few gummy sharks have also been boated. There have been excellent catches of southern bluefin and stripey tuna at the back of Rottnest. A spearfish was caught there a couple of weeks ago and another billfish was spotted in the same area in around 150m of water last weekend.

Bottom fishers have done well on dhufish, breaksea cod, and baldchin groper off Two Rocks. Shore anglers have been doing well on solid tailor to around 60cm from north metro beaches at first light, with smaller choppers closer to the city. A surprise salmon was caught from Brighton Beach this week. Cockburn Sound has been very kind to bread and butter anglers, with good hauls of herring, garfish, yellowtail and chopper tailor, with Keith Whyte also reporting some excellent sessions on king george whiting. There have been some big schools of pink snapper in Warnbro Sound recently, and while anglers have done well at times, often they have been hard to tempt. Bait has been the best bet, or small lures, with the fish possibly feeding on whitebait schools in the area. John Sorrell and a friend from the Eastern States spent last week kayaking in the metro area, catching a handful of big pink snapper in Cockburn Sound. Last weekend they ventured to Rottnest and caught some more pinkies, harlequin fish, small dhufish and a 20kg samson fish, which was trolled up on an RMG Scorpion Crazy Deep. A very meritorious catch from a kayak.

The bream competition last weekend saw some nice fish weighed in, the best of 2kg caught by Ian Sewell, and many teams getting three or four fish. Soft plastics worked best, with fish caught from Burswood to South Perth and the yacht clubs fishing well late in the day. Good bream have also been reported around Bayswater. The Moore River has been producing some nice black bream particularly above Woodridge, and there are some juvenile salmon to a kilo in there as well.
