Animals play an invaluable role in understanding and treating human diseases. Curtin University is committed to ensuring ethical, humane and responsible care and use of animals used for scientific purposes through compliance with the Animal Welfare Act (WA) and the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes.
Your new role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Animal Technician to join the animal facility team. The position is responsible for the husbandry and the welfare of the animals housed in the Life Sciences Research Facility. In addition, this position will provide high quality specialist services and assist in the training of facility staff and researchers in required techniques.
To be successful, completion of a relevant qualification in the animal technology industry or other related fields, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training in animal handling. Knowledge of specific pathogens free (SPF) environment, The Animal Welfare Act 2002 (WA), and “The NHMRC Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes” are essential.
This position would suit a proactive incumbent with high attention to detail and excellent writing skills. You must be flexible to work weekends and public holidays on an ad-hoc basis.

Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated effective time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as effectively within a team environment.
Demonstrated computer literacy especially in the use of Microsoft office software.
Demonstrated basic knowledge and experience in the care and use of animals in the University environment.
