The State Genomics Core Facility is a newly establish central nexus within the genomics, big data and genome editing space in Perth, Western Australia, located on the QEII medical campus, and supporting local researchers. The hub will also help drive research collaborations with universities and research institutions on a state and national level.
We are seeking a suitably qualified researcher with a PhD in Life Science or relevant field (i.e. Genetics, Molecular or Computational Biology) to manage the State Genomics Core Facility. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in managing an accredited clinical sequencing service; effective management of budgets and meeting stakeholder needs; over 5 years’ experience in genetics, computational biology and/or data analysis, including at least 2 years of hands-on experience with real data (either in an academic environment or industry); experience working with both manual and robotic next generation sequencing workflows (e.g. RNAseq, HiC, WGS, WES, single cell, methylation, ChIP). Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal), professionalism, ‘can do’ attitude, strong customer-focussed problem solving experience as well as a high attention to details is a must. This exciting position will evolve around the right candidate.
As the Facility Manager you will lead the design, development and management of a fully integrated genomics facility and will be responsible for directing all staff and activities of the facility and for coordinating the capacity building of genomic expertise.
You will also be responsible for (but not limited to);
Engage with internal and external stakeholders
Stimulate, facilitate and negotiate formal agreements with partner organisations and suppliers
Manage R&D activities and application of contemporary genomics technologies to ensure that the latest technology advances are being developed and implemented
Ensure the Facility is at the cutting edge of genomics and genome modification technologies in WA
Publication of these advances and dissemination to the wider scientific community through conference presentations will be encouraged
