This is a kind reminder to all new to Australia. Please do not think that you are in an English speaking country now and your English will be automatically good. You must work hard, take every opportunity to practise your speaking and listening. Try to make some Aussie friends but not only socialize with Chinese. Read newspaper or ABC news if you can. Please do not spend too much time surfing websites in Chinese. Try to get information from English resources.

英文基础不够好的话（听力不够7.5的话），我觉得看新闻就像听天书。。。循序渐进会更加实际一些。。。跟local聊天的确是个途径，但关键还是英文功底，不够好的话一是听不太懂对方说什么，所以精力基本都在力求对方的意图，然后回话一般也是能让对方懂你的意思为目的，所以无论语法啊，表达啊，措词了，全都会乱套。。。然后对方明白了又开始发问，然后又开始纠结对方的意思，如此循环。。。还有就是和local聊什么，通常而言他们只跟外国人聊很肤浅的话题，多跟几个local聊的话，回答都能达到条件反射。。。他们很少会跟外国人谈论他们自己的生活和话题。。。不过即使他们跟外国人谈论，往往也都是communication interrupted soon。。。估计他们也觉得那样会自讨没趣，还是跟外国人随便聊些客套话比较好。。。至于如何快速提高英文，我觉得个人不同，提高的方法途径也不同，并不是千篇一律。。。建议是好的，只是未必每个人或者多数人适用。。。

同意楼上看法，一步登天不行，循序渐进才行，到赵老师 www.tzhao.org 循序渐进一对一的网上课堂来学习吧

Hey I know this topic is old, but im a native English speaker with a very clear accent.
I've been learning Chinese for the last 3 years or so but just very slowly and self taught so would love to make some Chinese friends and get serious about speaking better. Actually I have already taught some of my last house mates English, particularly pronunciation.

So if anyone wants to catch up that would be great!
